"The 'Transit Series' is designed to supply artistically aware consumers with a piece of raw American culture. The series pieces display their traffic-graffic roots with a useful pop aesthetic and are an artistic trophy of our daily urban environment."Boris Bally brings decades of training and experience as an artist to this collection of pieces. Until he began experimenting with recycled traffic signage, nobody had seen the potential elegance of this discarded aluminum. He has since challenged himself to discover its properties in order to create bold objects of beauty which transcend its common roots. Signage has become his passionate medium of choice not only because of the recycling message, but also its appeal to him as an extreme variation on the age-old tradition of enameling.

These 'urban' expressions of glass-on-metal also
represent many years of collecting hard-to-find and specially weathered signage.
The materials employed here are gleaned from ten-foot-high, thirty thousand
pound scrap piles. Each of these reflective pearls represents sifting through
thousands of ordinary oyster shells. Boris extracts the most important elements
of these gems and matches them to create exciting color and image combinations.
Lastly, by sawing and filing fine details graphics are highlighted and accented.
Boris recycles street signs and bottle caps, pressing, forming and riveting them
to create furniture and bowls. He hand picks the raw materials for their
thickness, condition, color and graphics. These industrial strength pieces
celebrate a raw American street look. They are as tactile and beautiful as they
are strong and unique.
