Acrylic on Board - Oil Painting on Canvas
A new interpretation of contemporary painting
A fascination with something beyond reality, with fantasy and dreams, with nature, fairytales, spirit world and mystery, with primitive civilizations, geology, outer space, inner space and texture: my inspiration for painting, collage, pottery, 3D and fabric art. I work mostly non-representational and abstract while enjoying the play with materials, textures, colors and found objects. I love the working process: the surprises and unexpected effects that happen while I'm working. ANKO (Anneke Dekker-Olthof)

Dutch by origin, African by osmosis and American by assimilation, ANKO's full-time passion as an artist draws from her experiences as a fashion designer, her interest in nature and gardening and her lifelong interest in travel and photography.
Travel all over the world sharpened ANKO's appreciation of color, texture and pattern, while 13 years of living in Africa brought her an awareness of that diverse landscape and the uniqueness of the people born to the continent which many consider to be the cradle of humankind.

When I am finishing a picture, I hold some God-made object up to it - a rock, a flower, the branch of a tree or my hand - as a final test. If the painting stands up beside a thing man cannot make, the painting is authentic.
