When I am finishing a picture, I hold some God-made object up to it - a rock, a flower, the branch of a tree or my hand - as a final test. If the painting stands up beside a thing man cannot make, the painting is authentic.

Petersen’s work glows with color. His paintings consist of simple forms that, combined together in layered translucencies, become intricate patterns, punctuated with subtle nuances and complete surprises.

My paintings are a response of admiration for the created world. By
'magnifying' unique facets of nature I hope to paint a distinctive realism that
transcends conventionality. - Eric Tore
Using oils, Eric's paintings range from a blaze of color in power and drama to a
quiet simplicity wrapped in peace. In all of his paintings though, there is a
strong sense of design and applied drawing skill. Eric's training in art began at the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art followed by classes at the Fort Lauderdale Art Institute. After studying in
Florence, Italy for six months, he graduated in 1976 from Florida State
University with a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree. Eric has been painting full time since 1990 while supporting a family with
three children.
Eric's work is included in many private and corporate collections. He has
exhibited extensively, winning several awards nationally. He has twice been invited
to the Foster Harmon Gallery "Annual Major Florida Artists Show" in
Sarasota. Also noteworthy is five paintings purchased by the prestigious
Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, two purchased by Burt Reynolds, five purchased
by Hartley Peavey of Peavey Amps and Guitars and one purchased by Melissa Etheridge.
